We created the Cousteau Conservation Circle (3Cs) as an opportunity for our leadership level donors to be part of a special group who support the mission of the FCOLC and are committed to protecting our ocean now and for future generations. The 3Cs members will enjoy insider information about our conservation projects, personalized updates about the return on their investment in the FCOLC programming, and opportunities to personally meet and learn from Fabien Cousteau.

Your Impact

The 3Cs leadership group will help drive the development, initiation, and launch of some of our most important work in Florida and Curaçao. We put your dollars to work saving our ocean and teaching the next generation the importance of this essential resource.

As always, 100% of the funds we raise go directly to support our projects and the operation and administration of our organization. You can have a direct impact on the future of our ocean with your investment in the FCOLC.

Your dollars will have a direct impact on:

  • Habitat restoration in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection

  • Seeking to improve the functionality of the coral reef system

  • Monitoring efforts alongside Florida Department of Environmental Protection across the marine ecosystem

  • Developing outreach activities whereby the FCOLC interns will provide training and workshops for volunteers on collecting data

Partnering to Protect and Restore Marine Life

We are currently working in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, researching the best materials and methodologies for rescuing and growing new coral reefs. In Key Largo, we are planning a partnership in and around the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Dagney Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park to further protect our coastal waters and marine habitats by establishing a monitoring program that includes mangroves, seagrasses, and corals. The program will also be extended to students and teachers from the local schools and will include projects with a hands-on approach designed to also encourage participation by local residents.

Florida: A Stepping Stone to Curaçao

The work we do in Florida will inform our work in coral resiliency as well as establishing an educational resource for the local community. This is a preliminary step for the Curaçao program and delivers additional research activities that will provide another location for comparison, framing the extremities of the Caribbean sea ecosystem.

The FCOLC has been given a unique opportunity to work within a Marine Protected Area in the Caribbean where coral reefs are still intact. The biodiversity of this area allows the FCOLC to conduct research and study coral as it relates to the many changes that have affected the health of reef systems in other parts of the world.

The location of our project will be in the vicinity of where Fabien’s state of the art underwater habitat, Proteus ™ will also be situated. The FCOLC’s unique methodology of 3D printed tiles-- coral structures that are deployed to rescue corals, is new technology that can be integrated into the reef program. Monitoring this technique will help determine acceleration of new and revived stony coral in the hopes of bringing back the reef systems.

Our program will also address the integration of art and marine conservation, coupled with student and community educational activities. Scheduled for two phases, initially, the FCOLC will plan the build out of the infrastructure for land-based labs as well as surveying and analyzing current coral species and conducting benthic scanning for determining the best undersea nursery location. This will also include ToO (targets of opportunity) of coral along with asexual reproduction experiments. In the second phase, we will expand the program to implementing 3D printed tiles—for coral growth, and engage students as we also use the tiles to build out the underwater sculpture, Yemaya. Further programming on sexual reproduction will also continue.
