Why donate cryptocurrency?

Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit is more tax efficient and can save you money. The IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property for tax purposes which means it is typically the most tax efficient way to support your favorite cause. When donating crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto and then made a donation. That means you’re able to donate more, as well as deduct more on your tax return. This makes Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax-efficient ways to support your favorite cause. You can find all of our accepted cryptocurrencies listed below.
NOTE: When you donate crypto to the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center, we immediately convert your donation to fiat, which means all donations are non-refundable. Please only send currencies listed on the widget.

Donate today and help us fulfill our mission of protecting and preserving our planet’s waters, coastal areas, and marine habitats by facilitating education, research, collaboration, advocacy, and empowerment. As Fabien says, “To be on the side of nature is to be on the side of humanity.”
Frequently Asked Questions

WILL I GET A RECEIPT WITH MY DONATION?
You will receive a receipt for your donation via email. You must enter your email when prompted in our widget above.
IS MY CRYPTOCURRENCY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
In the US, the IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501(c)(3) charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. Please contact your tax or financial advisor for more information.
