The Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center and our founder Fabien Cousteau are partnering with Aquatica Submarines, to join a historic expedition to the bottom of the Blue Hole in Belize. Aquatica Submarines have provided complete design, build, sales and support of various Submersibles, and with their partner, the Roatan Institute of Deepsea Exploration (RIDE), we will be deploying their amazing Submersibles, for the Expedition.
The Blue Hole Belize 2018 Exhibition team will pilot multiple manned submersibles to the bottom of the Blue Hole to collect scientific data, focusing on a complete topographic sonar scan of this unique marine sinkhole and to promote ocean conservation and awareness. Fabien Cousteau and Sir Richard Branson will take the plunge to the bottom of the Blue Hole and explore the mysteries that lie beneath. On Sunday, December 2nd 2018 there will be a 2-hour interactive LIVE event from 4 pm – 6pm EST. on The Discovery Channel, where all can follow the journey into the great abyss. As part of this extraordinary project a portion of the money raised for this expedition, will benefit the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center to help continue our critical ocean education and conservation work.
Back in 1971, Fabien’s grandfather Jacques Cousteau was the first person to dive down to the bottom of the Blue Hole in a submersible. Now, Fabien and a team of scientists, explorers and filmmakers will return and make history by fully documenting this amazing natural wonder and its inhabitants. In addition, a full production crew will be onsite for the entire expedition, capturing the realities of ocean exploration, and creating a meaningful narrative for a full documentary.
